Bright Blooms

Bright blooms are in the works!
If you notice I tend to work in a different style with acrylics. My watercolors are more detailed while the acrylics allow for a more expressionistic approach. Yes I'm a contradiction :)  These will be available later in the week when complete!

Pippi

Schools out, time for some adventures outside the art classroom!  I painted this Pippi Longstocking the last week of school, I think my inner Pippi was tired of scrubbing the deck (ie end of the year cleaning) and ready to set sail!
I had an amazing year working with High Schoolers and the adventure that is AP art. I'm already planning for next year and we've been out 2 days! I have a few new projects of my own to tackle this summer, and plan to spend as much time enjoying family and friends as I can (road trip!)  I will be putting my shop on vacation for a couple of weeks, but will reopen soon!
Happy Summer!

Sleepwalking indeed..

About 3 am (an appropriate time for moon paintings I suppose!) I completed my Moongirl "Sleepwalking"

So very fortunate to have some time off this week for the holiday (hence the all night painting!).   Wish I could continue to hole up in the studio but alas the big dinner is at our home so preparations much be made!

Enjoy the night!

Daphne and Halloween memories of the classic 70's

"Daphne"
My offering for this month's EHAG Emporium where you will find a collection of original Halloween art created by the EHAG members.

I never tire of dreaming up new witches, just as a girl I choose being a witch for Halloween  more often than not. Although I have to admit when I was a little thing my costumes were those sad things that came in cardboard boxes with thin elastic bands on the masks that would break long before the big night.
I'm pretty sure this is what made my dreams come true one fine  October day back in the early 1970's
Oh Sabrina... You were a dream come true!

Wishing all of you dear readers a wonderful Autumn season!

"Little Mermaid"

"The Little Mermaid" new commission piece just completed.
I love mermaid stories (even named my daughter Madison after the mermaid in Splash ;) but I rarely paint them. I think its because living near the coast there is so much mermaid art around (and palm trees). Strangely enough though, I chose the most classic mermaid pose and focused on capturing the sense of longing I always felt was the heart of the story.
I think I may have to paint more mermaids!

Print is available here in my little shop

(Don't forget to enter my giveaway...just look a couple of posts down)

Peppermint Twist and the Imaginary Circus

"Peppermint Twist" She is a contortionist of course, but right now she is enjoying the night air and wondering where the road will lead.
I'm having so much fun with the Imaginary Circus. I'm up late at night working on sketches. I hope you like visiting! *passes cotton candy*

Bright Plumes

"Ostare"

I had a blissful day to paint today, I've been carrying this sketch with me for a few weeks and was strangely hesitant about her colors. I also wasn't quite sure who she was. When she first appeared in my sketchbook I called her harpy. Her face however seemed a bit to sweet for that. (although I'm quite certain even harpies have their good days). As you might have noticed I lean toward soft colors in spite of myself. Pale however wouldn't due, the bird woman called for bright plumes and turned out so regal I realized she must be a spring goddess. So Ostare she is, I found so many spellings for her I hope I selected the proper one.
I found an account of her having a rabbits head and woman's body. I'd love to paint her in that form as well. I believe the same article called rabbits her minions which made me grin. Don't you love the idea of rabbit minions?
